I am excited to introduce a project I have been working on for a while now: a website for the creation and management of Weewar tournaments.
Weewar Tournaments will currently allow you to setup single elimination tournaments with a variety of settings. A list of the current features include:
Future development will support other tournament types like Swiss paring, double elimination, and round robin; as well as introduce new features like extensive stats tracking for players and maps.
For the time being, I have created a couple of test tournaments and I'm looking for some volunteers to help me test out the site before I open it up completely. To sign up for the test tournaments, just go to the site and hopefully things should be relatively intuitive.
For comments and suggestions about errors, bugs, feature request, etc., please post here or email me. Thanks !
Very cool!!!
This is fantastic! Found it via the usual weewar vanity auto search before spotting it here. Great job! Will feature it on the blog next week, too!
Pluto, I might have found a bug. I wanted to join your 2v2 Tournament (http://www.weewartournaments.com/join.php?id=81) and therefore put in mine and my friend's userdata. My weewar name is "bmaker" (uuhhh) and due to my profile's content there is a XML error in line 18:
http://weewar.com/api1/user/bmaker (hey weewar devs, fix this bug, it exists for a long time now and I sent you an email about it many months ago!!)
I think this is the reason for the error message I get from your site when trying to join the tournament:
"XML error: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 18"
However, you've done a great job!
Fwaaah! That's cool!
More tournaments! Yippeeee
great
I would like to have the option to make a custom comment /info when creating a tournament
thanks for the feedback guys!
- bmaker, if you email me you and your friend's userdata, I will manually enter you into the tournament, although it would be desirable to have that bug resolved since the site will use the weewar API later on... perhaps you could just change your profile's content as a quick fix.
- jeye, I think the "extra rules" section will be a good place for adding custom comments. You can try it out when I open up new tournament creation.
I have filed a ticket re that api bug.. sorry that one must have slipped through the radar before
i'm in. 3v3 game with you pluto. hope that's ok... now what?
cool... now, we just wait for more teams to join
I would like to have the feature of adding a very small comment for each game for giving a map name. this might be very useful for a tournament where one team chooses from a choice of maps and the other team chooses the colors. it might be just enough if you can put in text in the field where you put the game number. there could be an html link where the name tag could be the game of the map. the team which is deciding on the map could communicate there choice with giving the name and leaving the link empty until the game starts
Not really a bug, but it says "Available Slots," and it's displaying how many slots are filled. Other than that, it looks great!
Pluto - of course this is awesome. Very easy to use. My 1st comment is that the details screen should be on by default. Took me a few seconds to remember what was going on & didn’t see “toggle details” right away.
(left this comment in the "comments" section of your blog, but I think this is a better place for this)
very cool! I joined a team to see how it plais out.
some very unimportant suggestions:
1) when you look at the actual tournament when you see for example: "2.wino (RichRahl20, corsair813) (1786)" you could turn the usernames into links pointing to the ww-profiles.
2) on the same place you could turn the teamname into a link pointing to another website that gives you a team summary. As in: each of the players listed in order of points, including all the obvious details as wins/draws/losses, profilepicture, profiletext and whatnot. Should be fairly easy. So you can check out the whole team in one go.
thanks for the feed back guys! more detailed individual and team stats is definitely something that I want to implement in the future
Tournament creation is now fully functional. Have fun making some cool custom tournaments!
I also added a little news ticker feature that shows when new tournaments are created or when people win games. You can also subscribe to that via RSS... whoohoo!
There's also a more subtle feature... when you are viewing a bracket, if there has been any game activity since you last checked, then there will be an asterisk next to the round number.
plus some other small things here and there... enjoy!
p.s. please report bugs and broken stuff here... thanks
Wow, I just saw the tournaments site for the first time - it looks awesome!
Boo hoo... all the slots are filled up
I have added it to the resource section on the Weewar blog. A link from Weewar.com will be added when we update next!
well done, pluto, this looks awesome!
I have a question about round pace. I'm guessing this is expected/required time to finish a round? How does this work in concert with turn pace? For example, a current tourney has 1 Day listed as both turn and round pace. Just seems like a conflict to me, so I'm hoping I'm just misunderstanding exactly what "pace" refers to.
thanks for noticing that. I guess that's a small bug. You're right, round pace should reflect the game pace and should be an indication of how often you should play in a day to complete a game. Right now, it's just a guideline, but I hope to implement it a little more in the future
Pluto, this site is incredible! Huge kudos to you. I saw it when you first announced it, but didn't have a change to check it out until now. I especially like the News Feed page. The "game ended" notes are hilarious with the "creamed, hath smote, vanquished" comments.
You and the other GM/utility devs are making my Weewar addiction so much more enjoyable!
thanks! you might also like the RSS feed which has interesting war-related quotes from famous historical figures.
plus, I am quite happy to be your enabler! ![]()
News feed is excellent!
May I suggest that you introduce some symbols or any other way to differentiate from the different events that can happen (game has ended, new tournament was created etc.) so that you can on first glance see whats up that interests you most. Now it kinda looks all the same. Does this make any sense?
again, there are lots of things you could (eventually) replace with links, names --> profiles, game --> actual game etc.
"<Alex(ander)> I have filed a ticket re that api bug.. sorry that one must have slipped through the radar before"
Ticket? There's a ticket system? And you've been hiding it from us all this time? ![]()
Pluto: Absolutely phenomenal. Great job, great work on this site. Two thumbs and a big toe up. ![]()
thanks streen, symbols for the feed are a good idea.
thanks pistos, i appreciate the big toe!![]()
meh i didn't get email notification of tourney start![]()
which one? there have a been a few bugs with tourney starts
I didn't get notification of this tourney starting: http://www.weewartournaments.com/display.php?id=87
Now that I know, how do I get my counterpart to start his game?
well, technically, according to the rules, if 24hrs has passed and your opponent hasn't started the game yet, then it's your turn to start the game. so i would suggest just starting the game yourself, and see if that's cool with the other guy
ok cool, thanks Pluto
Hi Pluto, Weewar Tournaments seems to think I have already "vanquished kev" in the tournament called "One-on-One". But I have only just started that game and he has not yet accepted the invite even.
I like the predictive power but still ...![]()
i guess weewar tournaments has a mind of its own then!
seriously though, sometimes pranksters will go through and set the game winners, but there's a bug that if you change it back it does not delete the item in the news feed.
good luck!
Yeah same tourney - 87, player "Snoop"
I never got any notification that the tournament had started, so I guess I don't get to play. Looks like someone got a free bye on my game.
Would it be too much to ask if there would be a bloglike feature for each tournament. Just so that subscribers of the tournament could say something to all other tournament participents that care.
For example, if I signed up for one and I want the organizor to start, no matter if the slota are all filled or not...
Sending ...
