Hello all.  A friend (Redwolfe) and I are planning on having a 2v2 tournament soon.  We would like to see a serious, more official 2v2 tournament that draws some of the most skilled players.  We are planning on having 16 teams finish in 4 rounds.  The rounds would be limited to 2 weeks each.

We plan to play Lakes 2.0/Pro units East vs West 1st round.  Cruel Intentions/ Pro units East vs West 2nd round.  City Sprawl/Basic units East vs Weast 3rd Round and last Plainly Six/Basic Units North vs South.

The games would be played for points.  Also, in order to hopefully draw a lot of interest, we plan to offer the $10 3month Pro account for the each of the winners of the championship game.

    So, thoughts?  Suggestions?

City Sprawl is not that balance including as a team game.

I've always thought team play could not work out satisfactorily without the necessary support from the game engine itself.

Hi, sounds interesting. Especially that you are offering a $10 3 month pro account for the winners. Shouldn't the developers offer that? Since it sounds like pro players are needed, I suggest that more custom maps are played.;) For example I like Stirling's Europe maps. I got a little bored of the standart maps. Imo it would be worth a thought to let the players which are in a game handle the maps which are played: So one team (maybe the blue one on pluto's side) would select the map and offers the team setup (for example blue and yellow vs red and purple) and the other team chooses which of the given team selection they wanna have.

Well, one initial concern will be that if players pick custom maps, there might be unseen inbalances or even exploits desgned into to map either intentionally or not.

Now, I have seen a few of Stirling's maps but I have not looked at them.  Are they balanced?  good for team play?  Would he be okay with us using his maps?

I think both Redwolfe and I would like to keep Lakes and Cruel Intentions but perhaps we could agree on two custom maps?  Any ideas and where I could see them?

Also, we are offering the reward to encourage more people to participate.  I have no idea how quick 16 team would fill up.  If I knew for sure I would set it for 32 teams.  However, understand as well that I am under a time constraint.  Come June I should be entering the USMC.  So the reason for 4 rounds, 2 weeks only heh

I think stirling's versions of the green diamond is well balanced for 2 or 4 players and better than my original version. I talked with stirling and you can use the map if you like. http://weewar.com/map/20424  and http://weewar.com/map/21360 . The Map RSS Feed sould help finding new maps.

Wow, thanks Jeye for asking Stirling for me.  I appreciate it.

His maps look crazy but interesting.  Seems like tons of potential to work as a team at least.

I'm looking at the feed and kinda like the River 2.0.  I would adjust who is on what side but that is it.  Blue/Yellow on North side while Red/Purp on south side.

Thanks for posting Jeye. I had troubles logging in. I haven't specifically made a map for 2v2 yet. The Cityscape might be an interesting 2v2 map. http://battleground2.weewar.com/map/19250 It is designed to give each player 5 bases and there are 8 bases scattered between the starting positions. It is a very fluid map since it has no terrain. Every more that you or the opponent makes means that you potentially have to shift your defense each turn. The advantage of the colors is spread out based on the number of bases that are 3 apart as opposed to being 4 apart. It is a map for honing tactical skill. The map gives 150 per base, so dallying isn't recommended and you might even say is punished.:)

I am working to balance the Stirling's Europe in all three versions (basic, Europe at War, and FFA). I will probably be switching the player colors soon to create a more balanced map for 2 player, 3 player and 4 player especially. If this map is used in the tournament before then, then I would suggest 6 players join the tournament game and then 2 players drop so that the tournament players are properly positioned.

Air Raid D is more balanced than Air Raid C was because on Air Raid C blue could guarantee a victory. Starting units and bases haven't changed, but the starting units for red have shifted from the "C" to the "D" map. The other changes were the addition of the red harbor, the move of the south central airport, and the creation of a mountain pass through the southern mountains, although it is usually never used. The big difference was the shift of an aa gun from the south to the center. If anyone is up for a game on the map as either side let me know.

Mountain Railroads, Small Peasant Revolt with Moat and Special are made specially for another player that I usually beat, so one side is given an advantage on purpose.

Stirling's Garden is a precursor map but I am distracted by other things to finish the series.

Here is a first edition 2v2 map. http://battleground2.weewar.com/map/21628 All players have roughly equal activation times for each of their 7 bases. Blue has 2 difficult 9 hex marches and 2 nearby bases in the opposite direction of desired expansion so it will be interesting to see if red can find a way to gain a "blue" base if blue decides to go for early income.

The map is based on earth's plate tectonics and what earth should look like 250 million years from now. I've taken some liberties in terrain to allow and block hover movement, but terrain should be based on the climatology of rainfall with respect to landmass and mountain walls that block moisture. I thought about using healing pads as glaciers, but maybe a different map. I've also assumed that earth civilizations will choose to have a warmer global climate since many northern lands and cities have moved further north.

By my reckoning, Blue should be able to take those far bases before Red even if he does grab the 2 easy ones first, but it might be a close run thing if Red makes it a mission to go after them. Although you would see that coming in advance and be able to send a raider down there or hurry up with your own trooper.

@Super-King: What map are you talking about?

    The tectonic future one.
