Who can I contact to help resolve a situation. greedyalgorithm has been awol for a long time (~19 days) and even attempts at contacting the player outside of the game have not found him. Can someone from weewar go in and offer peace for him since a real world issue probably crept up and bit him? The games needing a peace offering from greedy are: 64396, 64604, 66819. There are probably others, but maybe they already booted him. Thanks

    Why not just boot him?

He's a good guy that just isn't available so instead of messing with him and his points, just get the game finished as we had agreed - a game for draw. I figure he will be back at some point.

    That's fair enough....

But I've had people who suddenly dropped off and didn't take their turns for 30++ days. I mean, there has to be a limit right?

Heh.. I find it mildly amusing how our perception of time has changed over time. Not being in contact with someone as far away as we are from each other for a few weeks/months would have been a non-event 100 years ago and not remarkable a few decades ago.

Everything and everyone are so much more connected now... 'tis the "global village" come true XP

    *ahem*

We are talking abt Weewar after all...

    (I jest. You're right:))

Yeah.. I guess with a game on a one week timer you could reasonably expect the other person to be there some time within that week or shortly after.

But back in ye olden times, games were played face to face, not across a near-unlimited distance

There was this guy... I was playing... he was from Alpha Centauri... and dude... the game... like... took forever

I think if all players offer peace and the player who hasn't signed on for weeks - in this case, GreedyAlgorithm - has not, then the game devs should go in and end the game as a draw. Alternatively, they could make it so that if you don't sign into weewar for two weeks (or maybe one week), you automatically offer peace to all your games that are still running. I don't know how complicated that would be.

This is a tough one.... the kicking function is precisely for this purpose.

I understand things happen sometimes, which might keep otherwise regular players away from the computer. But it just seems like overkill to introduce a peace option too.

Will that mean that I get to kick up a stink the next time I haven't taken my turn promptly, and someone kicks me out instead of offering peace?

The point of Weewar is that you actually play the game. If you can't be bothered to log in for days, and you don't let people know where you're going, then losing a few points is hardly cruel and unusual punishment.

You only get 3 or 10 slots for games, and when all your opponents are dragging their feet, it means you don't get to play at all. Considering that a lot of us pay money for pro accounts, I think that's incredibly rude of the players who go AWOL.

He might be a nice guy ... but at the end of the day it's just a game (please don't lynch me!) ... so if his score goes down 8 points ... I'm sure he'll get over it:)

nat - that's pretty much the way i feel about my own score/ranking.  but i don't like to impose that viewpoint on others.  i'm in the wwpa.  also, interestingly enough, i've been sick today.  i last played last night, and then i got up about 6pm today after being sick, and just now at 8-9pm i got on the computer and played my games...:(

I was away on holiday for a week, and occasionally i caught myself thinking: "Hopefully nobody has kicked me yet" Smile ... sad. I did tell others that I'd be gone though, and nobody did kick me;)

Losing kind of sucks, but it's not the end of the world. I think most people understand (or should understand) that if they go away unannounced for an extended period of time and hold up a game, they're likely to get kicked. In the end, a loss isn't that big a deal.

As I mention in my profile, I have no problems waiting for you to come back from vacation or something, but if you don't tell me that beforehand, I'm going to kick you after waiting a reasonable period of time.

how about a boot function that didn't cause your opponent to lose points?
