Heidi ho. I am pleased to announce the alpha release of the new weewar map import and export feature. Simply login to your WWPA account, and click on "Maps" in the menu bar
I should stress that this is definitely alpha-quality software. Don't bother stress testing or stupidity testing it; it will definitely break. Just stay well behaved, and you should be able to enjoy unlimited downloading and uploading of weewar maps.
For the time being, this is restricted exclusively to operations on the test weewar server, just to keep potential damage to a minimum. :)
The file format for the maps is YAML . The files have a .wwm extension; WeeWar Map.
The industrious among you should begin immediately on standalone, local-running third-party map editors that use the .wwm file format.
(I will probably take a stab at this myself.)
Even without a map editor, even the half-way clever among you should be able to open the wwm files in your favourite text editors, and hack away. Then upload your changes, and [barring any syntax errors and the like], you can save your changes right back into your test server weewar map collection.
I don't know what will happen if your wwm file has errors in it, or if you deliberately try to mess around. Altogether, this thing is quite "use at own risk". :)
Enjoy, and post any questions, comments and suggestions in this thread.
Oh, and you can only work with unpublished maps at the moment. But I'll get to published maps too some time.
tx! ![]()
it worked for me.
Sweet.
this is very cool! although it is not working for me right now.
i logged into my WWPA account and went to maps. I did not have any maps yet, so I went and made one, but then when I click "refresh" it still does not show up. i even waited for the map to appear and be "generated" in my HQ
you didn't publish it, did you?
Pluto: Not sure what's going on. I see it attempting to load map 278, but it says the map is not editable. Is map 278 editable in your maps? Can I see a screenshot of what you see on your http://test.weewar.com/maps/yours page?
Okay, you can now clone your published maps so that they can be downloaded, edited and uploaded.
is the "clone" feature creating a draft of that map?
It is [intended to be] exactly the same as if you pressed Copy and Edit on http://test.weewar.com/maps/yours .
This makes an editable copy, so you can download it, update it, etc.
thanks pistos
Well, they've shut down the test server for what looks to be a long time. :( I guess I'll have to update the map stuff to work on the live.
yes please
again, tx pistos... i'm glad i got the maps i wanted dl'ed before they took it offline, cause sometimes they wipe the accounts.
Okay, the WWPA Map Manager has been updated to work on the live server.
Please exercise caution when updating your maps, because the "save to <map id>" feature IS destructive -- it will overwrite the existing map data. Keep an eye on your browser tab and make big use of map cloning and downloading to ensure nothing gets lost.
I will be testing more over the next while to ensure that there is no difference between the map editing on the test server and the map editing on the live server.
What I've played with so far is great Pistos. Nicely done. I want to play some more, but it's been pretty straight forward so far.
kersplat: Great. Let me know if you had any feature requests or other suggestions.
I am mulling over the idea of letting people specify an alternative username, so that they don't have to "endanger" their real accounts for map management, but instead use a dummy account solely for map management.
