It's supposedly more than an ebook: Kindle is a service extension of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ digital bookstore for the planet dream. The $399 Kindle can store hundreds of books, change font sizes, search and it has a wireless broadband connection for downloading, managing preferences and recommendations from the Amazon engine and searching the Web.
The launch is tomorrow. Wonder what else it'll do
Here is some coverage of the Kindle:
First Impressions - The Kindle is essentially an iPod for books, with Amazon’s online book store taking on the role of iTunes.

Sounds like a clever idea, but personally? not interested.
I have to say I am. There are a lot of aspects I probably wouldn't use, but I really could do with the reader, and the idea of all those book titles is very appealing. (The book I'm reading now is too heavy, and my arms get too tired!)
Hmmm.... seems that there are unsavoury aspects to it, which weren't mentioned in the initial coverage:
it spies on you, it has DRM (which means that it has to be designed to prevent you from modding it, lest you mod it to remove the DRM), it prevents you from selling or lending your books, and the terms of service are nearly as abusive as the Amazon Unbox terms
Expensive too.
Yep
Here's Scoble's clip with Arrington's views. They're pretty funny
