Ok, I tried the 'Is it going to rain' thingy again, and this time it (correctly) placed me in Brisbane and gave me a reasonably accurate forcast..

The rigid hydraulic pipes never go back in like they came out.
Sometimes it's easier to loosely screw the thread of the hydraulic pipe fitting into the cylinder, before finally bolting the cylinder to the clutch housing. (same applies to brake lines & cylinders)
