  • The Facebook Revolving Door

No one who is developing serious tools has yet engaged the Facebook API, so far as I can tell. I've known some serious appication developers who've talked a lot about it, but none have put forth the time/money/code yet. Question asking is about the only useful application I've com across, and the ma.gnolia plugin, just as a convenient way to see bookmarks for that community. But those two examples aren't much

  • Usefulness of microformats?

I thought that Microformats were the bets path to semantic web, and I still am 100% in support of microformats. Although, after experimenting with large "S" Semantic Web (RDF, OWL, SPARQL, etc) technology, Evan's got some good analysis here:

Also, from a general perspective of one of the original goals of the "semantic web" (teaching machines how to understand human sense making), the semantic web seems to be side-tracked on understanding text, when in fact humans create meaing in ways that are other-than-text based. So, i am proposing that we might want to think about a Semiotic Web

  • Mobile Phone as a medium for Viral Marketing

Also worth checking out is Beyond Bullet Points

Probably one of the best books out there on creating really good presentations.

  • Military blogging is out

heh, there are quite a few geeks over in iraq and afghanistan. I used to talk to some of them regularly on Orkut. I know that some of these guys will be able to get away with posting almost anything they want to the internet, because *they* are the admins. So, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

  • Does RSS contribute to 'localisation'?

Perhaps people who figure out how to stay abreast beyond their "Daily Me" will have a competitive edge over people who do not? Actually, that is the way it's always worked. Those who can take in and process information and knowledge effectively, have always had an edge over those who could not, or did not, IMO. So, I think that people are adapting. At first, some will believe they an get by with a closed off view of the world, but then when it comes back to bite them, they'll learn to re-braoden their views again.

  • Should I reinstall OSX?

Mick, I was getting that same error and problem with my iBook G4 for no explicable reason. Eventually, the hard drive died. It turned out that the hard drive died because Apple laptops apparently are using hard drives that can't stand up to any kind of rough use, like moving the laptop around, or holding it at angle. The apple techs on the phone admitted this to me after discussig this with them pretty extensively. They replace a lot of hard drives in laptops, it seems.

Anyway, I would venture to bet that, because your symptoms are similar, you are probably looking at a dying hard drive. MY advice is to get on the phone with Apple right now to start a documentation trail with them, because they won't replace the drive unless the drive manager tool indicates a drive failure. The drive manager tool often won't indicate a drive failure until the hard drive is close to total failure, and also to make sure your hard drive is backed up, because you can restore your hard drive easily when it is replaced.

  • Help

If you own a Mac, and you are getting stuck trying to figure out who to do different things, click on "Help" and type into the search bar exactly what you are trying to do. You will be amazed that close to 99% of the time, there is a tutorial that will walk you through exactly whatever you are trying to do. This also holds true for applications in the Mac.

  • Updating firmware

Sounds like a hardware failure. I recommend following instructions here: http://www.apple.com/support/  under get help-select your product, based on what country you are in, and calling them up, because you are still under warranty, it's is definitely worth getting it into them to fix it.

  • Is Tangler strangling Pinko Group activity?

proliferation of tools, too many conflicting interests, lack of time to try to acclimate to yet another forum, yet another online space. It's too easy to compete for people's time an attention these days. Almost anyone can start a forum or discussion group in a myriad of places online. And, then there is social intertia when those spaces are created, against moving to new spaces (I don't moving, or trying new stuff, but I'm a minority in this).

I'll bet in the case of Pinko marketing folks that it could also be that it is just a busy time for many people, which leaves less time for the conversations we've been having here. The wiki has also been inactive. Would be cool actually to go through what is in Tangler and the google group and see what could be summarized into useful pages for in the wiki, from all of the discussions we've had so far.

  • P2P Money Inquiry

Yes, the idea that we have is that administrative controls would exist, but it would be up to the group of users ho download and install the software on a server  to decide who is their administrator. Administration is then just a matter of permissions, mostly.
