  It says "open with adobe acrobat"

  All right. Double click on that line of the table. A Change Action popup should appear. I bet the last choice is selected right now: The Adobe Acrobat Plugin. Select the first choice instead: Open with the default application. Click OK.

  See if this helps. I've had real bad luck with the Acrobat plugin myself.

   

  I can open your link on the page; but Vanguard's site pdf links are still dead. 

  I bypassed a bunch of Vanguard's garbage.

  Latest Iteration of Proposal to the Board

  I looked it over, and I think it's good to go. I made one nontrivial change. The end of the Moderators/Librarians/Editors list item now reads

  We may also need Reviewers who monitor changes and check for accuracy; these individuals do not require moderator privileges.

  I thought it was important to point out that Reviewers need not be highly privileged.

  Barry and everyone else did a great job. Now let's keep our fingers crossed.

  Well, I learned something today. From An Encyclopaedia of New Zealand (1966),

  The tree fern or “silver fern” has also received recognition as New Zealand's official badge, although it does not enjoy statutory protection like the Southern Cross. It was originally adopted by the New Zealand Native Rugby Team which visited England in 1888 and has since formed part of the uniform (or badge) of successive representative sporting teams.

  Simba, I'll defer to Barry on this issue. He intentionally used numbers in some names to affect page ordering. I believe he's abandoned this experiment, but I'm not absolutely sure.

  Oh, I see. Rick Ferri can serve both functions if you use TinyURL, but not if you use the HTML trick.

  Book Reviews

  I haven't met Taylor either, but it's obvious from his posts that he's one of the most gracious guys one would ever encounter. Your statement

  "It would be an excellent first investment book, and one of the few books in the Book List that I could give my mother (and she could finish!)."

  is a nice touch. I bet Taylor and Pat really liked seeing that.
