I agree, it seems as if the game is moving away from its simplicity by allowing the users define its development, whether its the tournaments, the wikis, the greasemonkey scripts, the new maps...even the WWPA. My vote, also unsolicited, is to reign it all in a little. Get the maps balanced to be most fair, get the units in a good balance...

Bailing/kicked players imbalance multiplayer games?
This remains a big issue, because you're basically stuck. I always offer peace in these situations, but I've been screwed before when the benefiting sides decide that they'd rather have the advantage and a clear win.
I think the primary reason that people bail is that they find greener grass elsewhere (i.e. faster game, better group of players, etc), so the best thing to prevent this is to lock down the bailing player's open slots for a period of time (i.e. 24 hours, etc) after they bail. This would ultimately encourage players to really think about the games they join, as well as think about the games players bail on.
However, when you see a newb build the biggest thing they can get and it's a light artillary, you realize that this game is already over if you're not next to them, because whomever is next to them has access to pummel them. I think newbs should have to go through a walled garden of games before being put out there in general population. They're often the ones who bail first.
I think MP games are the most exciting, a lot more "strategery" involved, but if you're playing a 3 day game you can be caught in limbo for a long time once another player bails.

I'm a little surprised that the lack of gamesmanship is condoned by so many...
While it is a risk you take when you join a multi-player game, it doesn't make it right. Droning is also a risk you take when joining a multi-player game, but that's not fair, right? The difference to me is grey. It's either 1 person with two accounts or 2 people with 1 account each basically tilting the odds so far in their favor that it makes impossible for others to succeed. I'm of the mind that the best should win, and not the most should win...
I'd love to see the WeeWar society frown upon collusion, regardless of whether it will still happen, in just the way we do with droning. To that end, I think policing for fairness should be built into the game properly, whether by developing a user rating system or some other way that I'm not clever enough to devise.
