  • writer's block

In my experience, there are two kinds of writer's block. The first is a line-by-line writer's block. You have you're ideas, but the words just won't come together - exemplified by the reporter staring at the blank screen. The best way I've found to get around this is to talk out your story. Grab a friend (or, in a newsroom, an editor) and tell your friend what you want to right. Their input may help you, or the simple process of vocalizing where you need to go may clear the block for you.

The second kind of writer's block - the one you described - is harder. The ideas just won't take shape. The best luck I've had with that is simply getting away from writing. Read a book. Go for a walk. Go for a vacation - anything that will get new thoughts and ideas bouncing in your head.
