I have to disagree with you on both counts, Frank.

The fact that a mac has indeed been hacked destroys the image of a Mac as an "unhackable" device.  I do agree that because Apple has a smaller market share the hacks are not as prominent, however they are still out there.  The DNS hack is incredibly disturbing because it allows hackers to get into a Mac system as root and run any commands they like (and foul up the DNS entries for the machine as well).

The only legitimate complaint regarding Vista is that it is really meant for new hardware.  Yes, the RAM requirements are steep, but new systems today ship with typically more than 2 gigs of RAM.  Putting Vista on older hardware, particularly a combination of hardware devices that are not supported by Vista or have Vista drivers (the vendors fault and NOT microsoft's), is not the best course of action for Vista deployment.

What is striking about the Mojave Project is that people have no idea what Vista is like.  They are going on what their sister's friend's brother's computer friend said.  They have not experienced it for themselves.  THAT is what the Mojave Project tells me.  With Service Pack 1 of Vista out there, there really is no reason not to try it out.

One final note regarding cheap computers at the brick-and-mortar stores like Best Buy.  Sadly, Microsoft has no control over what OEM laptop manufacturers put in their machines.  The cheap $400 laptops at the stores that run vista usually only have 1 gigabyte of memory.  Vista runs, but it doesn't do so efficiently.  Microsoft usually gets blamed for these poorly running laptops, even though they have no way of enforcing the memory requirements.  HP, Dell, Compaq, Toshiba and the like are the ones to blame.

I run Vista at work, at home and even in virtual machines.  I really like it--it has everything that XP has, but it looks nicer, is more secure, and has better little features that I really appreciate.
