How should privacy, confidentiality be handled?
And would the content created during the session be stored?

Comparing online vs face-to-face psychology, what do you think online psychology would be like?
Trust is critical on most websites, especially one like this!
Usability and a quality experience also contributes to high levels of trust on websites. This is certainly the most important part of the design process here!
In addition, we will only allow registered psychologists with six years of education on the site. 6 years study is a standard for registration in many countries and will likely become a standard globally.
In the US there is a code for online therapy that was developed in 2004. I haven't seen one in Australia or other countries but psychologists will always be closely selected, educated and monitored. This is critical as there can be considerable litigation risk in providing some types of psychological services.
Did you know that all psychologists undergo very regular supervision as a part of their accreditation?

Are there situations where online psychologists are not appropriate?
I agree with you points, but I think the need is a bit broader than you think.
Awareness is primarily a marketing exercise. In the first instance it will likely be through GPs, Health professionals
and Psychologists. Once awareness is raised then more broad marketing will be appropriate.
Something that we found in our early research was that many professionals who travel a lot may be able to use an online tool to keep in touch with their pyschologist when they are on the move for work.
Tools, I say keep it simple. Chat as a starting point should be easy enough to get considerable reach with limited bandwidth. Many psychologists across the globe use this successfully right now.
In terms of seeking help online, you should do a search on anxiety or depression on Facebook. You will see how many people are seeking help (from each other!) It is huge!

Would you see a psychologist online? Why and when would you choose this over face-to-face therapy?
Thanks dekrazee1 you are totally right regards the more serious problems, these require long-term, often weekly, consultation with a psychologist.
University research so far has shown that cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is most effective online. This is generally used for less debilitating conditions. The therapy tool that we are creating will focus on CBT type therapies.
I think that trust can be gained in this context, just like more people now have more trust using their Credit Cards online, they never used to! Of course it may take some time to generate and perhaps referrals from Doctors or other psychologists will help in the interim? Plus perhaps government support (or even Medicare)
I know you have a lot of experience with online comms, much more than me! I must say I am always amazed when I meet people from Twitter in real person! Can be quite surprising! But does the way you 'listen' to a 'text-based' voice really matter? What if you were deaf? Of course with text-based comms you miss the tone of voice, type of voice and facial expressions. However, surely we can communicate these things with CAPS, S p a C e S,
, Punct-u-ation!, formatting and other things *sneaky smile*
Humans will make the most of the medium and tools we are given. What we need to do now is work out what is the right 'set' of tools to offer in our pilot of this new project so that we can match the face-to-face experience as best as possible.
What things would you add to chat, so that people can communicate emotion etc adequately?
In Tangler you have Font, Emoticons, movies, formatting, all sorts! How do they work? Do people use any of them? How much do people use them? Why did you choose the set you have?
What does everyone else think too?

When in your week is the best time to chat to an web psych?
If you were stressed out, or in need of coaching? Maybe it is at home? Or at work - when you are stressed?

Thanks Greg,
I have a copy of the book. It was given to me as I have a small case study in it!
It is a very easy read (skim) and has many useful case studies, tips and strategies for mapping. I knew most of them but got a few nuggets.
The best nugget was to map all my previous maps onto one master map. I searched on .mmap on my PC and very quickly created a massive map by dragging the files from File manager onto the appropriate category arms in a new map. Links are automatically created. It is a great way to organise knowledge and see more relationships and missing areas for insight.

How do the click tracking programs in terms of doing usability testing? Does it save time? Does the data help you understand why people do things?
Thanks

Hi has anyone used an online mind mapping tool that does tracked changes for collaboration? I understand that http://www.comapping.com does it but I haven't tried to track stuff yet. Will soon. From memory Mindmeister didn't track changes.
