  How to get people to post reviews

  I've found it challenging to actually get visitors to post reviews on my sites. I get a fair bit of traffic but so far no one has added their review. Do any of you fellow wprs'ers have some tips?

  "Visit the site"

  go through every file in the theme folder you're using and look for the text to change. I don't know the exact ones maybe Dan or someone can comment.

  Creating a new page

  it's nice to have at least 1 page for people to "Submit a listing" by adding a comment to this page, like award winning hosts has.

  you're assuming people will make tons of comment on privacy etc. I doubt it.

  if I were you I'd just charge ahead and don't worry about having comment forms on the other pages - most likely people won't comment often and if it happens then deal with it then.

  Write a review of [blank]

  Dan I think the problem is that in awh/comments.php the code that says: "... echo $title;" should instead be "...global $title; echo $title;" because I see that global higher up when $title is used.

   

  Does that make sense for a fix to the template? Not sure if I should look anywhere else.

  can I use a link cloaker?

  Because I don't want to break my site and I would think other customers would appreciate this info. Thanks.

  trackback there... but doesn't show

  But if trackbacks are enabled you can't stop people from commenting on their blogs about it. So I guess the tradeoff is either leave them on or turn off trackbacks. It comes down to if the incoming link juice minus outgoing traffic plus confusion of invisible comments is worth it. I'll leave them on for now and see what happens - comments can always be made unapproved. Thanks.

  how can people submit a listing (post)?

  on your award winning hosts site you have a tab added for "Submit a review", which when clicked says"

  Submit a Review

  To submit a review of your web host, first check the list of hosts to the right. If yours is listed, scroll to the end of its reviews and you’ll be able to add your own.

  If your website’s host is not currently listed on Award Winning Hosts, and you’d like to leave a review for others to read, we’d be happy to list it. Leave your review below, making sure you mention who hosts your website, and we’ll create a listing for the host and move your review as soon as possible."

  Then at the bottom of the listings it has a nice formatted title saying "Write a review".

  I would think most of us would want this in our other templates (the tab, the title, any special coding changes needed).

  Can you advise how we can add that to a template? Is there any special coding needed for people to actually submit a listing?

  how to handle spam?

  should I turn on "akismet" or will that mess up people's ability to add comments/reviews? please advise on spam settings.

  is each post a "product" listing?

  Is each post a listing that gets added to the review database? If so, how can I make posts that aren't "reviewable"?
