Don't know about the monk riddle, but I'm going to assume you've got a population of monks, sworn to an oath of silence and lacking material possessions like mirrors, all trying to tell whether they have spots on their face by observing the other monks.
If it works the same way as the blue eyed people on the island, they know that at least one monk has spots, and then gather each evening to see whether anyone's worked it out or not.
If there is only one monk with spots, the reasoning goes like this: "I know there's at least one monk with spots, but I don't see anyone with spots, oh gods, it must be me" - figured out on the first night
If there are two monks with spots, each of them independently think "Huh, I can only see one monk with spots, and if he was the only one he'd have figured it out on the first night. There must be a second monk with spots, and I don't see anyone else... must be me" - figured out on the second night
For 3 monks it's similar - if the only monks with spots were the other 2 they each see, then they'd have figured it out on the second night, so there must be another spotty monk, which they figure out on the third night.
In general, N spotted monks will realise that if there were only the (N-1) spotty monks they can see, they would have all figured that out on the (N-1)th day, so there must in fact be another spotted monk, which is them.

Can't think of a title that doesn't contain clues
Was going to try and write a whole elaborate description, like the climactic scene of a war movie, decided not to when I realised that was difficult and time-consuming. Don't think it would have made it last any longer though...

I fail at reading.
The crocodile was all full of dick and no longer hungry by that point?
Or the 3rd one's organ was improbably sized? (either too small to be worth eating or too large for the croc to finish it all while the pig was swimming)
