LQTM - No apologies necessary - you guys hinted what it was like and I still read it - and then it was obvious where it was heading (no pun intended!), and I kept reading - at least I didn't do it when my husband was around though ... ![]()

Who Is The "One" for Sookie **THREAD CLOSED - READ ONLY**
Exactly - it is almost llike the characters took on a life of their own and have veered off on an unanticipated tangent, and now CH is trying to get them back on what she thought was the track ... but maybe the success of "True Blood" has muddied the waters somewhat with regard to the "track" - there has to be a reason for the differences in DAG??!?!?

Academics Take a Bite Out of Sookie Stackhouse
"Southern girls have to fight a little harder for this (pure speculation since the south is all I really know) since we were raised to never be very forth right... It would just be rude if we were..." - but I'll bet that you know plenty who "rule the roost" in their own quiet way! ![]()
Interesting point though - and would this manifest itself more with Sookie having been raised by her grandma?
And yes it has been a while - vacations & lots of visitors - I've missed reading the board, and now some of the threads seem almost insurmountable! ![]()

"Save the Drama for Your Mama": A Place to Vent about DAG.
"Am I enjoying the adventure/ride? Not really - at this point I feel as though I've just been taken for a ride, period" - that so sums up my feeling about DAG.
"this book felt like a continuation of circling the airport... not just circling the airport on a nice clear day with plenty of time to kill, but circling the airport that has been taken over by terrorist who have cut the power and there are no lights anywhere and the only man that can save the day is John McClain (Die Hard 2). It is taking forever and the plane is starting to run out of gas and the pilot can't see jack shit because it is dark out side and snow is flying like crazy...." - loved that analogy
"maybe Book 10 will put everything back together again for Eric, and CH will give us a "gotcha!" moment" - the more I read here; the more I think about how it would seem out of character for Eric to keep putting up with Sookie's rubbish & taking risks for her; and the more I think about CH's not-so-positive comments about Eric, it would not surprise me if we don't see a "Frankly I don't give a damn" from Eric - and the sad thing is that if Book 10 is not a different book, I don't think that a lot of us will give a damn either.![]()

CH Q & A's, Interviews, etc...*READ ONLY. THREAD CLOSED. See NEW THREAD*
"The series will last as long as (a) I have things to say about Sookie, and the books are selling well. Either/or. One's my decision, one's my publisher's. It's all about the bottom line.
Hmmm. I read that comment as she will write the books if they continue to keep selling even if she has nothing left to say about Sookie. Have I read that either/or right because if so I'd like to know if she intends to tell the fans when she's run out of stuff to say so we don't all rush out and spend money on hardback copies." - I actually took that comment in a more favourable light, and assumed her to mean that she might have more things to say about Sookie, even after the books stop selling well - but leading on from DiB's "hardback" comment, I think that I'll be ordering the next one via the library, unless I read some awesome reviews - too many good books to be spending money on, and only so much space on the bookshelf. Having said that though, I read/heard an interview with CH some time ago in which she said that she took a step back to evaluate her career, and came up with her "Sookie genre" quite deliberately, in order to appeal to a wider audience - I'm not criticising her for that (we all want to be as successful as we possibly can), but it may indicate that she regards her career as a career rather than a vocation and her writing and publishing decisions may be made accordingly.
And as for the comments about Eric, I am clearly missing something - of all the male characters that CH has written so far, Eric is one of the fairest, and most level-headed - to be compared only to Sam & Calvin - even when judged by human standards? I wonder if, because CH hadn't planned the series, but allowed it & the characters to evolve, whether Eric has taken a position that she never wanted him to have, because her comments about him are never particularly favourable - maybe this is part of the raison d'aitre for DAG?

Black Dagger Brotherhood (JR Ward) - *SPOILERS*
"We know Wrath likes her and I for one am thrilled to see one of the BDB develop a platonic relationship with a woman as an equal." - now wouldn't that be breaching an unspoken social taboo?????!!!!!!?????

Book #9 Dead and Gone (For those that HAVE READ already) *SPOILERS*
I wish that I played chess, because I think that there would be a really good analogy there - Eric is really good at seeing the big picture & formulating a strategy accordingly - I think that's why he didn't rush to Sookie's aid - he could still be strategic, and wanted to get pieces into place. At other times, like the takeover, there wasn't too much he could do, in terms of placing his people, so he came straight to Sookie - but he still played a strategic game.
