  • "Save the Drama for Your Mama": A Place to Vent about DAG.

I think this series is alot like the TV show Lost. It started out great and then a few seasons in it really started meandering. Lots of questions being asked and nearly no answers being given. Then, the producers decided to commit to an end date for the show -- the network grudgingly agreed. As soon as everyone knew exactly how long the series was going to run, they could start mapping out exactly what needed to happen and when to get the story told in XX number of episodes. As a result, Lost gained new focus and direction and started answering questions. I think Charlaine should do the same -- stop the series while it's still on top just like the Lost producers decided to do. Instead of meandering along and not knowing how much more story you are going to need to tell, make a decision that is right for the STORY. Don't string the characters/story along further than is natural because it's a cash cow.

By the way, I'm three-fourths of the way through DAG and I am disheartened as well. Sookie has become an unlikable character.

  • Other Book Recommendations.**THREAD CLOSED-READ ONLY**

It seems lately I've been reading lots of series -- here are a few good (and great) ones to check out:

Night Huntress Series by Jeannine Frost (GREAT): The third book came out in December and the series is one of the best. Kat is half-vampire, half-human and she is the heroine throughout the series. She works with "Bones" who is a vampire -- and one of the best-written heroes of all time. I could melt just thinking about him. If you try just one new author, make it Frost and read the first book in this series "Halfway to the Grave" -- you won't be sorry.

Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter (GOOD): There are four books out so far, each one has a different hero/heroine.

Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole (GREAT): Again, each book has a different hero/heroine, all set in the same universe.

Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian (GOOD): The fifth book just came out, each has a different hero/heroine.

Gardella Vampire Chronicles by Colleen Gleason (GREAT): The fifth (and final) book in the series comes out in March. Victoria Gardella is the heroine in each book. This book series is advertised as "Jane Austen meets Buffy", and that's very apt. Victoria is a vampire slayer in victorian times, and the author does an excellent job of creating very believable romantic leads for the heroine that I truly did not know who Victoria was going to pick until the end of book 4 (though I did have my favorite I was rooting for -- much like I'm rooting for Eric!). I've read so much over the years that it takes a really good writer to keep me guessing!

Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs (GREAT): The 4th book is due out in February. Someone mentioned this further up, so I will just second that recommendation!

  • General: Info, Announcements & Introductions

Hi everyone! I was so excited when I found this forum during lunch that I posted in an "Eric" thread before I read the rules about introducing myself. So sorry! I'm 45 years old, and I live in Indiana with my husband, kids, ages 18 and 15, and several cats.  I work in marketing communications at a Big Ten university.

I am new to the Sookie Stackhouse series, but not to vampire/paranormal romance. A few years ago, my sister-in-law convinced me I needed to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so I did. The rest is history. Not only did Buffy, and then Angel, capture the fascination of my entire family but it introduced me to a whole new world of romance to be explored. I've always been a romance reader, but had stuck with historical romance. After Buffy and Angel, I think one of the first "vampire" books I read was by Colleen Gleason, who has the Gardella Vampire Chronicles. The first book was advertised as "Jane Austen meets Buffy" -- with my love of historical romance (and all things Jane Austen) as well as Buffy, I thought this book had been written with me in mind! From there, I branched out to modern-day "paranormal" books (I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were so many!) and quickly found that I loved them.

I had heard about the TrueBlood series on HBO, but sadly, we don't get HBO. I didn't know much about the Sookie Stackhouse books, but I had heard of them and seen them in the bookstore. I must admit that my first impression of the book (before the TV series) was simply based on the book covers, which looked kind of quirky/campy to me -- and I was more interested in the darker, serious stories. I thought the Sookie books looked too lighthearted. Well, when the first book came out with a new cover to match the TrueBlood TV series, I decided to give it a try. I read the first book before Christmas and loved it! So much so that I asked for the other books in the series for Christmas. I received books 2,3, and 4 -- and am currently reading book 3. I am hooked! I must admit to confusion though as I was reading the second book -- at some point, I started hoping for Sookie and Eric to get together! By the end of book 2, I was completely aboard the Sookie/Eric train. And I am comforted by the fact there are many here who are Eric fans as well -- and that he sticks around for the many books that I have yet to read!

I look forward to coming here often!

  • "Ad Nauseum": All the Reason's for Sook/Eric to be together (a.k.a: "ESA"-Eric/Sookie Anonymous)

I just discovered this forum today at lunch and I can't tell you how happy and relieved I feel! I just started on the Sookie Stackhouse books at Christmas and am currently reading the third book. I have to tell you that part-way through the second book I started feeling like I wanted Sookie and Eric together. By the end of the second book, I found myself looking forward to the Sookie/Eric moments more than the Sookie/Bill moments. I'm so RELIEVED to know that I'm not alone!! And that there are so many others rooting for him as well! I just can't wait to read through the rest of the books and catch up with everyone else. I just love Sookie (despite her clothing choices -- what's with the ever-present bow in the hair?) Glad to have found others like me!
