  • Game of Thrones aka George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire

I can't believe a release date has been set!  Very exciting.

  • Other Book Recommendations

I have another recommendation, although these books aren't even remotely paranormal/urban fantasy etc. etc. -- the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters.  There are @18 or so books in the series, each one of which is about Amelia Peabody and her family, a fictional band of Victorian-age Egyptologists solving a different mystery in each book.  They are very quick reads and show a great sense of humor.  Like I said, they're not remotely paranormal, but they have the same character-driven type of appeal I often find in PN books.  I started them when I was young but recently revisited them and vacuumed through the entire series.  Very enjoyable.  I was sad to put the last one down.

  • Vicki Pettersson -- Signs of the Zodiac series -- Cheat The Grave

I really liked this book.  Laura, on your point about the timeline not working with the pregnancy -- I think it does.  I think Jo told Hunter he had been gone 10 weeks (and 3 days) rather than 10 months.

I was left a little confused by Tekla/Warren here -- I wasn't 100% sure what was going on with Tekla and how that did or did not influence Warren's actions.  I find Pettersson's writing often to get a little jumbled, in that things could be a lot clearer than they are presented.  Some of that is for foreshadowing, etc., but some is, I think, slightly confused prose.

  • Signs of the Zodiac Series - Vicki Pettersson - General Discussion (SPOILERS)

I finished Cheat the Grave this morning and really enjoyed it -- I feel like this series is really improving, in no small part due to better writing and tighter editing.  There may have been holes or issues with this book, but I was sufficiently engrossed that I feel like I didn't even read it that carefully and just blew throught ill the end.

Much of what I like about this series is how truly different it is.  The superheo/Zodiac concept seemed really fresh, and I have come to really enjoy the concept of Midheaven.  Don't get me wrong, I am all for vampires/werewolves/fae etc., but this series and its storylines seems a lot more unique than the others -- in that sense it does strike me a bit like the Fever series.

  • Book Covers -- What makes us cringe and what makes us cheer?

I agree with you guys -- this cover was really the wrong way to go.  If they wanted to try to grab a larger audience or play with genres, they would have done better to have more of a superhero/marvel comic type vibe going on there.

That said, I am just glad it's coming out in paperback rather than hardback so I can buy it immediately.

  • Fever Character Timeline

I don't plan to read Highlander, so would be grateful to see a timeline should someone put one together.

  • Vampire Academy (SPOILERS) - Richelle Mead

Now I kind of want to buy the Buffy boxset and get started.  Maybe if I ever end up getting an elliptical machine in the basement I can set up the t.v. so I can watch shows back to back, my dream . . . . not that this has anything to do with paranormal fiction.

  • Black Dagger Brotherhood (JR Ward) - *SPOILERS*

I definitely think Murhder is going to make an appearance at some point, given the clues that Ward sprinkled through Book 7 about his and Xhex's past.  If the next book is about Xhex & JM, as it appears to be, then it would seem most logical for the next book to be the one where Murhder appears.

I agree with you that JM has a lot to learn and a ways to go.  His biggest problem, it seems to me, is the combination of the harsh events he's experienced AND being only 18.  The problem for him is that he doesn't have deep enough relationships with anyone for them to sit him down and talk him through it.  Of all of them, he seems to have the closest relationship by this point with Z, but Z may not be that well-suited to giving JM the advice that he needs.  On the other hand, I feel decently confident that JM will emerge from the state he is in currently with some perspective because of his ties to D.  If he is , as it seems, D reincarnated in some way, then it seems at least possible that he will be able to tap into that reservoir of experience and perspective at some point.

  • JR Ward - COVET (Fallen Angels series)

Good to know it is good so far!  I have really enjoyed BDB and the world Ward has created, so I will certainly pick up the new series at some point, but I'd like to wrap up the various things I've started first.  Especially if there is an uncredited cameo from Vishous:)  Perhaps just wishful thinking.

  • Georgina Kincaid - Succubus Heat

I agree that there are really huge obstacles with Carter.  My pick is Carter or Jerome, particularly Jerome.  On the other hand, you're never supposed to date your boss.Smile

I have to say that I don't really like Roman or Seth.  I have a really hard time fathoming Seth's attraction.
