  • ActiveX Control?

Prism is not technically "based on FF3" but more accurately is based on XULRunner.  Prism is separate and does not depend on any other software to be installed.

  • Prism Bookmarklet Experiment

i've updated the bookmarklet to handle icons.   It is intended to allow user to provide a url to a good quality icon in either ico format for windows or icns format for mac and i suppose xpm or xbm for linux (right?).  By default, it will populate the icon url field with the sites favicon.ico (assumes) but this is not suggested yet since it would create a blurry desktop icon. What is needed is a way to either scale up the favicon in a way that looks good on desktop, have sites provide a higher resolution icon (maybe a mozilla prism standard and semantic markup in page) or just let users point to a proper icon hosted somewhere on the web.

For sake of experimenting, i've at least added support for the latter.  If the option is not used, then the official prism icon is used.

  • Have there been any Web Apps that have extra features on Prism in a bundle?

prism handles css to skin apps just like the stylish firefox plugin.  javascript is used to customize some elements of the host UI (chrome).  and of course the web application itself can be designed in any way and provide navigation.

  • Trusting your desktop to the web: Safety in Air, Silverlight and Prism

Here is a pretty good article outlining the security issues involved with the primary desktop/web hybrid platforms:

  • Prism and Leopard

This is from the lead developer of XULRunner:

"XULRunner has no problem opening multiple windows. What it does not do is
open multiple processes attached to the same profile. This is a design
decision and not something for a bug."

So, the solution will come in probably the next release of Prism that should support multiple profiles... one for each webapp.

  • Prism + Tangler

Hey Marty.  Yeah Tangler seems ideal for Prism.  I just wish I could login;)  Hopefully, that can get resolved soon.  Thanks.

  • RSS for ONLY private groups?

i totally grok why RSS is not available yet... with the nature of real-time discussions, it could get scary on the db side.  But I think you could deploy rss safely if a group is private.... which typically would not have mass amounts of posts and requests.  I think that might make people happy until the full RSS feature can be deployed safely.  Something to think about, maybe.  Oh yeah, there are also some measures that can be taken to turn a feed OFF if it reaches a certain level of activity... sort of like flood protection.  So there are ways to provide RSS while still avoiding problems that might occur.
