  The new breed

  

  What's interesting about all the phones we have listed here is that their primary innovations are in industrial design reather than software interface.

   All good stuff, but for me that's why the iPhone was so drool worthy. It's not the be all and end all mind you. But it does get others to start pushing beyond the static phone "desktop" we've been trapped in for a few years now.

  Thanks for the corrected link Bricoleur, I agree with you in terms of collective control. The two examples I was using might be used more for analysis and longterm action rather than direct manipulation at the moment interaction. In the case of environmentalXML imagine for example
  changing the way we understand energy consumption in the home or across a neighborhood. I'm thinking about ambient displays that alter how we think about the number of things that are sucking down power and blowing out heat around us for example....

  heh, yeah we're putting together a better one about play, just need to finish it so we can post it... soon I hope. Basically its a capture the flag game, two players, each start on either side of the play space, they have to battle against monsters and each other in a mad dash to get to their opponent's home base.
