  • Who's Out There?

hi, i'm in italy, i have a personal blog on wp.com ( this one:)) and i'm involved in a not for profit community based mu implementation (see http://blogs.gnumerica.org )

i'm not a php coder (not yet, at least:), but i'm proficient with xhtml and css, so i'm taking care, with others, of the design side of the story. we're gonna move our primary web site http://www.circolab.net into wp. see this test site i made, yesterday: http://blogs.gnumerica.org/circotest (we might want to change layout details in the future, i simply wanted to prove some wp skeptical friends that the site could look just the same)

i'd love to talk about wp, and especially mu.

the main problem with the above example, at the very moment, is that sidebar columns content is static, because of mu lack of support for widgets. my theme is based on sandbox. on a single wp installation works ok, and widgets give blog authors the possibility to easily modify, via web interface, sidebars content. i'm playing with wp themetoolkit to see if i can arrange some kind of web based theme administration, in mu

  • Issues

There's a small bug with the submenu ("All content types", ...). Since  the text becomes bold on mouse over (css class :hover) and menu items have different  length (i.e. different number of letters) sometimes other items _move_ when one is hovered.

A solution (one of many possible solutions) i adopted (on a very smaller project, see http://patativa.gnumerica.org ) is to add individual ids to submenu items and then set different paddings (es. #item-one a:hover {padding: 0 2px;})

  • How useful is StumbleUpon?

i guess SU was bought (and valued) because of its community, and his users. a potential. to turn in it into a real value, they (e-bay...) will need to imagine a businness model. ads, or anything else. but possibly e-bay is not so hurried of making money (directly) out of SU

  • Why I'd Use It

I bet you (or at least Flickaday developers) already know this, but let me point out a couple of people / site who made something very similar, a few years ago (on an individual level): Noah Kalina (see this video on youtube) and jm of 09h09.com

  • Design and Usability

i personally prefer desktop applications to web applications. anyway, the site design is really *very* beautiful.:)

again, possibly this is not my kind of tool - but i guess my wife would love it
