News: Tangler CEO Leaves....... Sydney
Hi all,
For a website that wants to see growth from a social standpoint, it's a bit clickish here. A bit of a pile on using clever inuendo. And yes, I did get the 'ol party pooper' and 'ballon busting' jibes. What I didn't see was much input from outside of the core Tangler groupies.
I'm off to explore the web! Best to you all.

It's a good thing that they are keeping the brand. Because I think that 'Gateway' is a better name/brand than 'Acer' - which sounds like a character out of West Side Story.
Plus the fact that I'm typing this on a Gateway laptop.

Is Public Beta a Warning or Invitation?
We are curious creatures by nature. Have you ever - for fun - looked skyward in a public place to see if others would start looking up too? Try it. You might even gather a small crowd. People stop - and follow - because they can't possibly be left out of the moment. "I want to be among the first..."
We all want in. Google capitalized on this when they started a selective campaign to 'hand out' Gmail invites. But only from those who were already "in". Everyone wanted one because very few had them. Brilliant! The Beta Steam Engine was rolling along. What better way to harness the masses to test your product than creating a "members only" stampede.
Here lies the Warning. Google has billions of dollars to roll around in the Beta Hay. Good for them. Compare this with the thousands of Beta start-ups hoping to garnish high traffic in an effort to get their product to market. I am personally tentative when Beta Programs (whether alpha, beta, gamma or delta), show off shiny Web 2.0 graphics and have cheer leader developers who spend more time fine tuning their Google Ads than they do proof reading.
I like looking up at the sky. I like talking with others about what they see in the sky. But when all is said and done my neck gets stiff if there's no sustenance. Then I loose interest. Much like I am now.
I'm hungry. Therefore I'm going to the kitchen where there are no Betas and I can find something to sink my teeth into.

I have a very small circle of friends that keeps in touch every 1.323 years (+_- 30 days). Somebody picks up a phone or sends an email and all is right in the universe for another 1.323 years. I do not have a use for this service. I will say that Plazes is not a new service/program/idea. They've been around for awhile.

No.
Old school is two tin cans and a piece of string.

I like the idea of a Wiki for this subject matter. It has lots of potential.
I think your "button" navigation across the top should be either all words or all symbols - not a mixture. Since I'm not sure you will find easily identifiable symbols for these types of terms (and the ones you're using look like something grown in a petri dish) , I vote for words.
If you go with all words then you might consider using different color buttons allowing the eye to differentiate between topic/terms.
I also think you should move the "Navigation" and "Toolbox" items from the very bottom of the page to the TOP of your left sidebar (where your Adverts are currently). Otherwise I will begin to think you are trying to make a dollar over allowing visitor/users to easily find information. I'm suspicious of this currently.
That's as far as I have ventured...

We need a logo for This Week In Tangler
Umm. Not to spoil the party here, but did anyone realize that the acronym for "This Week In Tangler" spells "T.W.I.T."?
Can we work that into the design somehow?
All that rubbish aside I like the big button logo...very Web 13.0!

Beans, Beans, the magical fruit,
The more you eat 'em, the more you toot,
The more you toot, the better you feel,
So eat more beans at every meal!

I'll tag along with dekrazee1's comment and add a couple more:
Smaller versions (icon sized) of your logo looks like a red cell phone playing the drums. Instinctively when we break thinks we grab them from the ends, and force the middle UP. Think breaking a long stick over your knee. I loose the breaking something (cigarette) because of the movement, the color (red) and the big eyeballs.
I also thought by reading the name only, that this had something to do with Text (which it does) - like Notepad or something. Maybe a way to bring out the word QUIT more than TEXT will give folks a better clue.
Finally, I give you props on you Privacy statement including the following:

I'm joining this thread a bit late. There's some good discourse here...even some lengthy (read: meaty) bits from dekrazee1.
I've used many different readers, but for speed, simple RSS feed additions from any enabled web page, simple GUI and ease of access from other Google programs, I use Google Reader.
Jill Marie: What grease monkey extensions are you using to optimize G-Reader?
As for 'managing' RSS feeds - which should be a separate Topic here - I find that if my G-Reader count is 100+ consistently, It's either an issue with the web site kicking out too much content or that I'm simply not giving it the attention I thought I was going to give it. Therefore I tend to delete those feeds to prune my list. The last thing I want to feel when I look at my RSS feeds is overwhelmed.
