  hi mehdi, there was a post about startupweekend in Montreal Tech Watch recently. I think the conclusion from the comments was that we should wait how startupweekend in Toronto is doing and learn from their experience and erros.

  mehdi: i didnt know about badoo. after a bit of research, i discovered that they are brute-importing your address book contacts just after you register, from your hotmail, yahoo or gmail account. ie everyone of your contact and family will get an invitation email. tagged.com is using the same tactic. it's assimilated to spam for most users.

  maybe you can try the montreal version of craiglist. like every other day, there is someone who offers his/her services in web design for cheap or even free.

  but i have never worked with these people tough.

  RichardPendergast: Bokardo talks a lot too about community managers, and I guess it makes sense if you trying to build something like flickr or tangler.

  The thing is that i see more like twitter, ie a microsocial network where you are not "friends" with everyone else.

  about your previous comment, I am using tangler for Montreal Tech Entrepreneurs, we have a group here which is working together quite well with democamps and barcamps and tangler seems a good solution -- for local issues.

  I have changed preferences and dont get notifications now. I guess the problem is solved.

  if i were you, I would use shopify.com. they have a system which is ready to use, and all you have to do is customize the design.

  they also have one of the lowest rates around.
