Is the multiple attacking bonus still in effect? It doesn't work on the simulator.

1vs1 tourney using Map Contest Maps
We now have 43 of 64 players, only 21 to go.
For the "Going Coastal" map, suggest players use the updated version "Coastal Challenge": http://weewar.com/map/25120 This is updated after play testing, adding two additional starting units to red player, to make the map more balanced.

On the surface, I like the strategy considerations that go along with ZOC. There is some rationale that units from different countries acting in vicinity of each other should be less effient, in their attacking (e.g. no attacking bonus benefit) as well as movement.
More broadly speaking of team games: One potential problem I've wondered about, is when players join that know each other, and communicate outside of the message board or naturally become allies (it's can be impossible to know for sure what makes an alliance)... without the other players being aware of this connection. It would be nice if players could be blinded in FFA games, along with some rules that communication is not supposed to occur outside of the game message board in those games.
For team games, I also like the idea of giving a start up option for preestablished unchanging teams vs. free alliance play vs. ffa play.

I think it would be great if people could sort maps. A relatively simple feature at this point would be the ability to search & sort by things that we can easily track (# times played, # times played in the last week/month, by when it was created, by # selected as a "favorite", by creator, by map name, # of players, map size, pro vs. standard, etc.) If we could do this, it would be a great boost for the map search.
It would even be better if new player rating features could be added. Possibly the most important would be a balancing statistic (# times won by color). Even more advanced would be to allow pro players to rate maps 1-10 by various features (good for dual play, for multiplayer play, land, air, sea, etc), and be able to also sort by those.

[...no unit which is a good counter against (subs)...]
How about giving helicopter anti-sub capabilities?

The most common complaint I hear about Weewar is that blue and red are not balanced. Sometimes this is stated accurately, sometimes overstated. In any case, I suggest that when starting a game, the game creator has the option of choosing color, or making that choice random (with the latter being the default).

Suggested for map editor: ability to define default unit types allowed for a given map.
For example, in some maps Hovercraft or Battleship significantly alters play, and the map creator may wish to "suggest" those unit types are excluded from the map, as a default. Adding such units could still be done at game creation, but would be intentional. Such an option would likely become more useful if additional unit types are added (e.g. coastal cannon), which might be considered undesirable for some map types.

Is there any way to run statistics on maps played? For example, there is probably a reasonable formula that could be used for predicted win (based on ratings alone) vs. actual win. This would be nice to use for 1 vs. 1 games in particular, to statistically assess balance of play for blue vs. red.
Regarding # of categories, it may be difficult to compare some maps within few categories. For example taking 1 vs. 1 maps, a sea battle vs. land battle vs. air battle map might be very different and subject to personal preference. Ditto for large vs. small 1 vs. 1 maps. An alternative to multiple categories, would be for people to simply "rate" each map based on various categories (i.e. asthetics, balance, air, land, sea, size, etc.). I could envision this being used in the future for people to decide which game to play (i.e. if they want to play a map that would be good for sea battles, they could sort rankings by that factor... or only look at small maps and then rank by balance of play, etc.).
